Good luck message from Leeds as Lionesses get ready to roar
The Lord Mayor of Leeds has sent a good luck message to England’s Lionesses as they prepare to go for glory in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
England get their campaign under way in Brisbane tomorrow (Saturday, July 22) with an opening group game against Haiti, kick-off 10.30am UK time.
The squad includes Leeds Beckett University graduate Lucy Bronze and Rachel Daly, a product of the girls’ centre of excellence at Leeds United.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Al Garthwaite, said:
“I’m sure people across Leeds will join me in sending best wishes to the Lionesses for what promises to be a fantastic tournament.
“The skill, determination and team spirit shown by the players as they won Euro 2022 was wonderful to see, and we were proud as a city to host one of their warm-up matches for that competition.
“They are fine role models and provide a great example of the way in which women’s sport and sport in general can unite people of all ages and backgrounds. Let’s hope they bring the trophy home!”
Tomorrow’s England match will be shown on a big screen in the events space at Leeds Kirkgate Market.
Seating will be available and fans can grab a bite to eat from the Market Kitchen as they watch the Lionesses in action.
England’s other two group games – against Denmark on July 28 and China on August 1 – will also be shown at the market.
