Have your say on updated legislation to tackle anti-social behaviour in north west Leeds
Residents are being asked for their views on proposed introduction of legislation designed to tackle anti-social behaviour in North West Leeds.
Currently in Leeds there are 18 Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs), introduced in 2017 under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act, 2014, which do not allow people to consume alcohol or be involved in other types of anti-social behaviour in public places. These were introduced to tackle problems which have occurred from individuals and groups gathering in certain locations and negatively impacting local residents.
In North West Leeds there are three PSPOs with terms relating to on-street alcohol consumption. This new proposal is to expand and merge the current PSPOs and provide additional terms to tackle additional harmful and nuisance behaviours around:
• Large scale parties in street/ noise nuisance
• Alcohol
• Psychoactive substances
• ASB/ criminality
• Household waste
If you would like to comment on these proposals for north west Leeds, you can do so by filling in an online questionnaire, which is live from Monday, 14 October, before the deadline of Sunday 03 November 2019 at: www.Leeds.gov.uk/PSPO
The council will make a final decision on the proposed PSPO following conclusion and evaluation of the consultation.
Councillor Debra Coupar, Leeds City Council’s executive board member for communities, said:
“This new designation in the Headingley and Hyde Park, Weetwood, and Little London and Woodhouse council wards of North West Leeds will form part of our continued work to tackle anti-social behaviour in public places where problems exist. Before any final decisions are made, I want to hear from the people of Leeds on this proposal. With that in mind a public consultation survey is now open and I would like to encourage affected Leeds residents to take part before the deadline of Sunday 03 November 2019.”
