Improvements start for busy Fink Hill junction on A6120, North Leeds

The Fink Hill junction located between the A65 New Road Side (Horsforth roundabout) and Low Lane roundabout, is a key route for traffic travelling between the Ring Road and Horsforth.

The works are expected to last for 12 months, with the main construction starting in January 2023, after the busy Christmas period to allow for minimum disruption to road users. The scheme will improve connectivity between communities north and south of the ring road, provide new pedestrian crossing facilities and cycle lanes, offer a better junction layout to improve safety as well as improve congestion for residents and commuters.

Traffic management will be in operation whilst the works are carried out, and from January 2023 the A6120 carriageway will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction. Disruption will be kept to a minimum, but there will inevitably be delays, and when temporary closures are in operation, diversion routes will be well signed.  To be kept up-to-date with any of the construction, our contractor Colas Ltd has an app you can use. 1. Fink Hill is part of phase one of the Connecting West Leeds (CWL) corridor improvement project that will deliver multi-modal enhancements to capacity, efficiency, safety and accessibility for all users of the A6120 Leeds Outer Ring Road (ORR). The other sections of the project proposals were consulted on earlier this year. The CWL corridor extends for 4km on the western edge of the Leeds district at its border with the City of Bradford. The project stretches from Fink Hill and the A65/A6120 Horsforth roundabout in the north, to the edge of the A647/A6120 Dawson’s Corner in the south.

2. The scheme is jointly funded by Government’s Levelling Up Fund (LUF) and WYCA West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund. The West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund is the largest element of the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal, and is part of a £1 billion package of Government investment delivered in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to accelerate growth and create jobs across Leeds City Region. The Levelling Up Fund is designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK. The £4.8 billion fund supports town centre and high street regeneration, local transport projects, and cultural and heritage assets.
