Visit to museum will light up your autumn

Visitors to Leeds City Museum will have the chance to make their own lanterns during a free drop-in event.

The mid-autumn light workshop takes place on Wednesday, September 23 from 10am until 2pm and then 1 until 3pm.

Get creative at writing workshop

A creative writing workshop will take place at Leeds City Museum inspired by animals and their habitats.

Taking place in the museum’s Denny Room on Thursday, October 8, from 10.30am until 4.30pm, the workshop will be inspired by the Life on Earth Gallery and will explore ideas about animals, habitats and relationship with humans.

Booking required.Taking part costs £10 and includes lunch in the café.

Crafty day at museum with 3D printer

A exploration of the latest craft technology will be on offer at Leeds City Museum, including the chance to see a real 3D printer.

The Leeds Craft Hack, takes place on Wednesday October 14 from 10.30am until 4.30pm.

Visitors can drop in at any time throughout the day and taking part is free.

Activities include laser cutting keyrings, designing your own piece of wearable tech using LEDs, vinyl cutting and heat pressing old t-shirts. A 3D printing workshops demonstration is also included.

Spectacular collection showcased at study day

Leeds City Museum’s spectacular South Asian collection will be in the spotlight at an event this November.

Antonia Lovelace, curator of world cultures will host the study day on Thursday, November 12 from 11am until 3pm.

Leeds has around 1, 000 items from the South Asia, including Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, a fabulous range of textiles, and everyday domestic items for decoration and cooking.

Visitors can learning about the sub-continent, and how the musesm has linked up with Leeds own South Asian communities in the Voices of Asia gallery.

Booking is required and the event costs £10 which includes lunch in the café.

Pawsitive result for pet policy

Leeds City Council has received recognition for two of its pet-friendly policies.

The council's Housing Leeds team has been awarded the RSCPA’s Bronze Community Animal Welfare Footprint (CAWF) for the seventh successive year.

The CAWF award celebrates and promotes housing providers that demonstrate good practice in animal welfare.

For the seventh year running RSPCA has recognised the commitment Housing Leeds has to providing a clear and positive pets policy along with useful information for tenants, stating: "The organisation has clear enforcement guidelines, demonstrates good partnership working, innovative education work, and more."

And this year for the first time the council's Resilience and Emergencies team has also been recongnised by the RSPCA for their pet-friendly policy. The team has been awarded Bronze Contingency Planning Footprint for its new Reception Centre Plan, which includes provision for pets in the case of evacuation or other emergency.
