Make the most of Tour de Yorkshire

Businesses are being encouraged to move into top gear for the thrilling climax of Tour de Yorkshire here in Leeds.



They are being asked to attend a roadshow at Leeds Town Hall that will help them make the most of the inaugural race finale in the city on Sunday 3 May.



Taking place on Tuesday 7 April from 5.30pm the roadshow is being run by Welcome to Yorkshire providing simple and direct information, facts and advice about how to make the most of this world-class event.

Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member for digital and creative technologies, culture and skills, said:



"We are again expecting a large influx of spectators especially given that we’re hosting the finale of this first ever world-class cycle race. We want local business to be in a position to really make the most of the surge of tourism.



"This kind of opportunity is unprecedented so people will stand to gain a lot from the tangible help and advice on offer at this workshop. Expert advice can help your business both now and in the future as the Tour de Yorkshire becomes an established and respected event bring large crowds to the area each year."



A recent economic impact study of the Tour de France showed over £100m was generated for the Yorkshire economy.



The new race, taking place over three days and encompassing over 500km of Yorkshire roads, from the coast to cities and from moors to market towns, offers a significant geographical spread for tourists and visitors to choose from.



The nature of the route chosen for the race means cycling fans old and new will find dramatic backdrops, tough climbs and Yorkshire landmarks in which to enjoy the race.



Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:



"We saw a huge appetite for all things Yorkshire last year when we hosted the Tour de France and this new race will bring back some of the world’s best teams. This means spectators from far and wide and the most fantastic advert our county can wish for – global television coverage. The roadshows will help businesses prepare in the run up to the event, race days themselves and of course long in to the future as we establish Yorkshire as Europe’s number one cycling destination."
