One minute silence to be marked in Leeds

Leeds City Council will observe a one minute silence in respect of the victims of the terrorist attack in Paris and other recent atrocities, at 11am on Monday 16^th November 2015. In line with Government buildings, council flags will be flown at half-mast for the day.

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council said:

“We will hold a ceremony at Victoria Gardens on Monday to allow people to express both their sorrow and solidarity. We are working with others to make sure appropriate support is available to those who may need it and make clear our commitment to standing up to terrorism and violence.”

Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Chapman said:

“The people of Leeds are invited to join the council and many others as we pay our respects on Monday. Leeds has strong links to France, made stronger last year. We will share their mourning as we remember those who perished on Friday, all those who were hurt and their loved ones.”

Leeds City Council Chief Executive, Tom Riordan added:

“What we saw in France, with so many lives lost and people injured is a tragedy. It is right, therefore, that as a council we pay our respects. Council staff and other partners in Leeds are invited to join us in observing the one minute silence.”

Councillors Blake and Chapman will join Tom Riordan, council staff and others who wish to attend on Victoria Gardens at 11am on Monday to pay respects.
