Summer roadwork schemes planned for Leeds
A number of roadwork schemes are planned to be carried out in Leeds during the school summer holiday period.
There’s a need to carry out essential schemes to utilities, roads and bridges across the city and after liaising with the partner organisations concerned, Leeds City Council has ensured the works will be undertaken while traffic flows are lower and with alternative routes available to minimise disruption.
The programme of works includes gas main replacements on the A65 Leeds Road at Rawdon, A6120 Station Road, Cross Gates and Spen Lane, Weetwood. Major water works will be carried out on A653 Hunslet Road at Crown Point. And work continues on the district heating scheme for Leeds which crosses Marsh Lane under weekend road closures.
In addition, works to bridges and structures continue through this period at Leeds Bridge and A659 Pool Bank, while work on the City Connect Cycle Superhighway scheme through the city centre is ongoing.
Road users are advised to check the latest highway news on our website www.roadworks.org or www.leeds.gov.uk/streetworks and on Twitter @LeedsTravelWise
Leeds City Council executive member for regeneration, transport and planning Councillor Richard Lewis said:
“With the schools now closed for their summer break, it gives several weeks for these essential maintenance works to be carried out across the city with minimum disruption while the roads are quieter.
“We have worked with the utility companies and other partners to plan these works happening as best we can, so hopefully as much will be done as possible in this period. We appreciate the patience from road users in the areas concerned.”
