Leeds City Council is collaborating with Keep Britain Tidy to trial approaches to remove chewing gum, that blights busy city centre streets, after successfully bidding for a £24,994.50 chewing gum task force grant.

With over a thousand tonnes of extra black and green bin waste expected to be produced and over a million bins to be emptied across Leeds during the festive period, the council’s refuse service will be doing all it can to ensure bin collections continue to run smoothly.

With over four million brown bins emptied each year from over 215,000 households, Leeds City Council delivers the largest garden waste collection service in the UK.

However, brown bin collections are going into their annual winter hibernation after Saturday 3 December, meaning most households will have their last collection in late November.

Residents across Leeds are being invited to lead the way and become #Binfluencers by helping make sure more recyclable material ends up in green bins across the city.

There will be no bin collections on Monday 19 September as a mark of respect for Her Majesty The Queen’s state funeral.
