Vehicle being seized after vehicle or driver not complying to lawful standards

The police may seize a car for a number of reasons, including: Driving without insurance: The officer had reasonable grounds to believe the driver was uninsured Driving without a valid license: The officer had reasonable grounds to believe the driver was not driving in accordance with their license Driving without an MOT: The car may be impounded if it has failed its MOT and is still being driven, especially if the tax has also run out Using a vehicle for a crime: The vehicle was used to commit a crime Causing a public nuisance: The driver was driving in a careless or inconsiderate manner Failing to stop: The driver failed to stop when requested to do so Using a foreign registered vehicle: The vehicle was registered in a foreign country If a vehicle is seized, the owner is usually given a notice to reclaim it within seven working days. If the vehicle is not reclaimed within 14 days, it will be disposed of.
