Summer is smiles better with Breeze In The Park

Organised by Leeds City Council, the roadshow-style programme will see more than 25 interactive play days for children and teenagers taking place in various parks and green spaces over the next five weeks.

Each day’s attendees will be able to enjoy a jam-packed array of activities, featuring everything from sports and games to art and music – and, of course, Breeze’s famous giant inflatables.

Partner organisations and other council services – including Zero Waste Leeds, Leeds Young Film and Leeds Libraries – will also be running a range of taster workshops and hands-on experiences.

And all those involved will be aiming to ensure that 2024 – which marks 20 years since Breeze-themed events started in the city’s parks – is a real summer to remember for local youngsters.

The schedule gets under way with a visit to Belle Isle’s Coopers Field – the new name for Parkside Playing Field – tomorrow (Wednesday, July 24) and ends at Manston Park in Cross Gates on Thursday, August 22.

Other communities welcoming the Breeze team for day-long stop-offs will include Pudsey, Gildersome, Armley, Harehills, Otley, Burmantofts, Morley, Tinshill, Farsley, Horsforth, Yeadon, Potternewton, Middleton, Bramley, Rothwell, Seacroft and Halton.

Events in Bramhope, Beeston, East Ardsley, Wortley, Kirkstall, East End Park, Wetherby and Cross Gates will include relaxed and quieter sessions for children with additional needs.

Councillor Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture, said:

“Breeze In The Park is a much-loved staple of summertime in Leeds, and I’m sure this year’s events will add another chapter to its long-running success story.

“So many young people have enjoyed Breeze get-togethers in our wonderful parks and green spaces since 2004, with the programme’s continued focus on fun, inclusivity and value-for-money reflecting our determination to ensure Leeds is the best city in the country to grow up in.

“It’s lovely to think that some parents bringing their own families to this summer’s events will once have attended as children themselves and are now set to make a whole host of magical new memories.”

Each day will have two main sessions, one running from noon to 2.30pm and the second from 3pm to 5.30pm. The sessions for children with additional needs will run from 11am to noon.
